Visionary I

Hello everyone and happy Labor Day to those in the United States who celebrate it.

Labor Day is a holiday that honors the American labor movement and the contributions workers have made to society. Today our reflection and journal will center the theme of work and life balance.

In general, how do you feel about work?

Are you satisfied with the current work you are doing, whether it's in school or a particular field?

Journal Prompt: Balance

How do you maintain a healthy work/life balance?

Do you find it difficult to maintain this balance?

What could you do to improve your current work/life balance?

Feel free to share your response to the reflection and/or journal prompt in the comments if you feel comfortable. As always, no pressure.

This week there will be a discussion topic post on capitalism and labor. We'll be defining these terms and looking at how people in society are impacted by these systems.

Don't forget to respond to the Discussion Poll in the lounge if there are topics you are interested in discussing in this group!

Visionary I

I have mixed feelings about work. I am nervous about entering the work force after grad school. I took a gap year after earning my Bachelor's degree and saw first hand what it's like to be in the workforce. It's not that I didn't enjoy my job and the work I was doing, but it was so tiring. I cannot imagine working 9-5 Mon-Fri my ENTIRE life. It sounds terrible and something I don't look forward to even if it is a job I enjoy and am making the impact I want in society.

Right now, I am satisfied with the work I am doing in my Master's degree program. I like that my schedule is flexible and that I have time to create content for my brand Naesthetycs and this Group Hub. If I could create content for the rest of my life, on my own schedule, I believe I'd enjoy my work, but working for someone else full time for the rest of my life doesn't sound pleasurable.

Journal Prompt:

It's difficult for me to maintain a healthy work/life balance with so many things going on in my life. There are more activities I'd like to incorporate into my daily routine such as exercise, yoga, and cooking healthier meals, but I have not had time to do that yet. For me, I need to sit down and put together a schedule for my exercise, yoga, and cooking routine. I'm very organized, so setting aside time in my calendar would work best for me.
