Can we all breathe a sigh of relief at the verdicts in the trial of Ahmaud Arbery's killers?

I am so relieved, but can I also say that I'm a bit surprised by the outcome? So often the legal system disappoints as Leslie reminds us in her reflection about the Rittenhouse verdict. But at least this week, the pendulum swings towards accountability.

To be clear, these guilty verdicts will not bring Ahmaud back home to his family and his life was stolen from him for the singular reason that he was a Black man. The work continues, but for a moment we can find comfort in the fact that this time, organizing and advocacy worked.

I feel relieved but still upset. At the end of the day there is nothing that can be done to bring him back. I'm glad that there was justice in the case but there are still too many injustices in our society
