Meet A Revolutionary: Elijah Dietrich

On Episode 5 of Meet A Revolutionary in collaboration with Roots, Révolutionnaire co-founders Justice Faith and Nia Faith speak to Elijah Dietrich, a fifth year integrated engineering and business student with a passion for environmentalism.

Elijah is a fifth year integrated engineering and business student at Western University who has spent the past several years exploring the systems causing climate change and developing solutions to make these systems more sustainable. This journey grew out of Elijah's experiences supporting multiple field research projects studying climate change in the Canadian Arctic and sub-Arctic while he was in high school.

Since then, he has been an advocate for climate action everywhere from his university’s campus to the 2018 United Nations climate conference and on the Prime Minister’s Youth Council. He has also developed ESG product strategy at a major Canadian asset manager, designed a social and environmental impact measurement system for an impact investing fund, and advised social enterprises with a local consulting firm.

These experiences have instilled in Elijah the notion that youth are powerful advocates that can positively change systems through sustained effort. Though this takes time, Elijah has seen that young people are also very capable of implementing solutions to problems like climate change themselves in the meantime. To this end, he is currently working with Student Energy to pilot its brand-new program that will provide youth with the tools, training and funding they need to develop clean energy projects and enterprises in their communities.
